Beaufort--North Carolina’s third oldest town--is located on the lower Outer Banks of North Carolina, directly across the IntraCoastal Waterway from Morehead City North Carolina. The lighthouse at Cape Lookout North Carolina has guarded the treacherous shoals since November 1, 1859. Beaufort Inlet, one of the most navigable inlets on the east coast, offers mariners safe entrance to Beaufort Harbor.
